Hi Linda, I'm wondering what your thoughts are on someone drinking an entire box of wine over the course of one day...every day. My 67-year-old MIL does this, and it baffles me how her liver can hold up. Some days she is ranting and raving about every person who has ever wronged her, and other days she's completely normal, friendly, and lucid.

Hi Linda,
I have concerns over enabling.. My wife is an end stage alcoholic and I left her about six months ago to live with my brother. I pay all her bills and look after her as much as I can from afar, visiting every other day.
We have a ritual which involves me taking her out for a toastada and coffee followed by her buying her booze and then i drop her off at home. Even though I wont go into the shop with her or carry her booze I still pay for it. I know this is enabling but I also understand if I didn't do this she would have to go cold turkey and anything could happen.. She also has no short term memory and sits at home in her own excrement playing cards on the computer and doing nothing.. I have to force her to put clean clothes on and wash them but when things go as far as this there's little more I can do..
She is so vulnerable I can't just move on as I so want to do, so I'm in limbo waiting for the end which will surely come.. About sive months ago she was given a year to live and i have little doubt the doctor was right..
On a positive note I'm a craftsman who has become pretty successful despite all this and have great hopes for a future for myself..
